Book Lovers

This piece of homework was to write using personification;
Making an inanimate object take on human personality.
I chose the book and the pen...

It was a dull day in the bedsit
hard to concentrate. Her thoughts split
the Book idly turns another page
bars of rain down the window form a cage
Restless heart filled with unspoken yearning
Her petticoats rustling like pages turning
Book thrown aside, tossed on the bed
Thoughts merging with the rain in her head.

The pen, cheerful, paused from his noise
His happy humming as he sat, pen poised.
Thinking aloud while writing his diary
His mind kept busy, full of enquiry.
Words flowed from his nib like liquid gold
Snuggled in his eiderdown to keep out the cold
He was on fire, the pen and the page
Lines poured from his heart, his life the stage.

Pen glanced up, and seeing Book,
With her face deep in thought-another look
reveals an unread, unknown story
Book stands up, revealing her glory.
As her cover slips to the floor,
she makes a move to shut the door
she crosses the room and looks in his eyes
Pen looks up with great surprise
For the first time to discover

“Don’t you know?” she whispers
“Never Judge a Book by it’s Cover”
